Three Rivers Race 2019
The Three Rivers Race is our first race every year. It starts from Saltash, beneath the Tamar Road Bridge, rowing up the Tamar into the Tavy, back down the Tamar into the Lynher and then returning up the Tamar to finish at Brunel’s railway bridge. The race is one of the longest races each year and is held in early March, which can be very cool, breezy and wet. This year the rain held off but with storm Freya moving in, it was very windy. Portland entered three crews, Lades A, Men’s A and Men’s B. Our A teams rowed ‘Pulpit Rock’ and our B team ‘Chesil’, with a total of 76 ladies crews and 74 men’s crews taking part.
All crews pulled hard against the strong Tamar tides and the high winds to complete the six miles in the following positions and times; Ladies A – 58th – 1:13:10, Men’s A – 25th – 00:55:00, Men’s B – 63rd – 1:01:32. The combined position for our Gig ‘Pulpit Rock’ was 39th of 72. Thank you and well done to all our crews and thank you to Caradon Gig Rowing Club for the well run and enjoyable event.
