Portland Ladies Crew And Cox

Ladies County Championships – Newquay – 10th/11th September 2016

Our ladies entered a team in the Championships at Newquay, Cornwall. The weather and sea state were pleasant with sunshine and a long swell. The 100 crews were put into heats to battle against each other and the clock around a triangular course approximately 1.8 miles long. Round one heat three was our crew’s first race in the gig ‘Nipper’. Finishing third meant waiting to see if they had qualified for round two by time. After a couple of nail biting hours and a little confusion it was announced that Portland had made it. The round two draw put our crew into heat three again in the gig ‘Lark’. Although the crew put their all into the row through the swell that had built, unfortunately they did not manage to progress into the quarter finals. Despite this, the ladies achieved 47th place overall. Thank you Newquay and the CPGA for an enjoyable championship event.
