Hunkin Regatta – Fowey 2025

Hunkin Regatta 8th February 2025

This was a ‘friendly’regatta with invites to the clubs who have had a Gig built by the Hunkins. On a very cold February day PULPIT ROCK took her place alongside 19 other invited clubs. The races were initially an Open and Vets for both Men and Women as well as a mixed race, later expanded to include a B heat in the open category. The course was in Fowey Harbour, heading towards the sea with a double Bow turn to bring us back into sight of the spectators.

Portland Ladies used this as a great opportunity to have a 3r practice, with the 3 River team coming second in their heat in the Open Category, and in the Vets Race the IOS team took to the water coming 8/12 with a strong finish. Further to this 3 ladies then went to compete in the Mixed race.

Portland Men used this Regatta as an opportunity for some new and borrowed rowers to experience the Portland Team Spirit with a creditable 6th in the open and a 7/9 for the vets.

This was a very well organised Regatta hosted by Fowey Gig club, and a good start to the season. Amongst the teams were three new regatta rowers, Vicky, Mathew and Uriah.
