Swanage Regatta
Swanage Regatta is one of PGRC’s favourites. The sandy beach is ideal, it’s a very short row to the start line and the hospitality/spectator area is roughly 100 ft from the beach. Twelve clubs attended gathering ready for the umpires brief at 9am on what started as a warm day with light winds. Racing started at 10am. The regatta was open to all gig clubs but also contained the 2nd round of the Jurassic League.
PGRC entered six races, the Mixed crew, Men’s Supervets, Men’s Vets, Ladies A, Men’s A and Men’s B. As the morning progressed the wind built and started swinging to a north easterly. Our Mixed crew achieved 8th position of 11 gigs, Men’s Vets 7th of 11 and Men’s Supervets 5th of 9. Unfortunately, as the Ladies B race was lining up to start the wind had built and shifted to a level where the event had to be abandoned as it was becoming impossible to hold the start position and was forecast to deteriorate further.
Thank you, Swanage Sea Rowing Club, for your customary brilliant hospitality and an excellent day.
