As Weymouth is just 3.5 miles from our base our members continued the tradition of rowing our gig ”Pulpit Rock’ to Weymouth beach where they joined the other twelve clubs and 18 gigs from Devon, Somerset, Dorset and Hampshire ready for competition. The event was not only Weymouth’s annual regatta but also the first event that qualified within the new Jurassic Regional Gig Rowing League.
As the day progressed the wind speed built up. This was not a problem for rowers on the protected waters of Weymouth Bay but those on the beach did endure a minor sand blasting. After a hard days racing Pulpit Rock finished the regatta 9th out of the 19 gigs and Portland finished the day 4th of the 9 clubs within the Jurassic league. Thank you to Weymouth Rowing Club for an enjoyable day.
