Due to the tides, Sidmouth Gig Racing Club had to hold their regatta on the same day as the Football Word Cup final. With shrewd planning and fine execution assisted by sun, warmth, very little wind and a flat sea, the regatta went well with all races and the prize giving completed in time for the participants to watch the big game at 4 pm.
Eleven gigs from nine clubs raced the kite shaped course. Portland’s crews in ‘Pulpit Rock’ enjoyed the tough racing with our men’s B crew excelling themselves in a spectacular finish catching and passing Bridport on the final leg to win the race by approximately 2 metres. The B crew finish ensured Portland retained 1st place of the B crews within the Jurassic Regional Gig Rowing League. Portland’s overall position within the League remained 5th. Well done all.
Thank you Sidmouth Gig Racing Club for a great day.
