2018 was the first year that Portland had entered the Men’s Championships which took place over two days (15/16 Sept). There were 98 crews entered into the draw for the 1st round, with Portland being drawn to race in the gig ‘Lantic’ in race 12 of the 17 races. 90 crews actually raced as 8 crews withdrew. With the weather behaving itself and the sea relatively flat, our Portland men raced around the kite shaped course achieving 3rd place in their race with a time of 14 minutes 12 seconds. Unfortunately this left them just missing out on getting through to the 2nd round resulting in an overall Championship placing of 45th. Congratulations to Coverack A, the Championship winners. Thanks to all those involved in organising and controlling the event.
